The Aircraft Makes the Difference

Airplanes. They’re the often overlooked workhorses of the skydiving industry. Altitude is key to a good skydive, so let’s take some time to appreciate the importance of an airplane that gets us there! We fly a Beechcraft King Air at Skydive Tecumseh that delivers on everything turbine aircraft have to offer. 

Turbine aircraft supply two of the most important luxuries in skydiving: a quicker ride and more time skydiving. Our airplane provides the opportunity to jump from as high as 18,000 feet! That comes out to about 90 seconds of freefall. For comparison, many dropzones only jump from 10,000 feet, and most max out at 15,000 feet. 

How long does a 10,000-foot skydive take? Freefall from 10,000 feet only lasts about 30 seconds. So then, how long will it take to fall 15,000 feet? About 45 seconds to a minute of freefall.
