5 Things You Didn’t Know About Skydive Tecumseh

Tuesday, July 2, 2019

Skydive Tecumseh has a few well-kept secrets that we think are — well — so awesome that they shouldn’t be so well-kept anymore. Let’s throw open the curtains on these tidbits and tell the world about what we’ve got goin’ on at our gorgeous Michigan dropzone, shall we?

1. We’ve got an incredibly long history for a place that looks so dang-heckin’ new

When you roll up to Skydive Tecumseh and stroll into our front office, the fact that we’ve been around since practically the start of sport skydiving won’t be, um, readily apparent. Our brand-new hangar is a thing of beauty to behold, and our dropzone facilities are considerably lovelier and more extensive than most skydiving dropzones you’ll happen across.

Speaking of which, there’s another cool thing to share…

2. We built it barn-raising style.

The skydiving community is a particularly strong group of humans, and our Skydive Tecumseh “skyfamily” is a notably cohesive corner of it. When it came time to build a new hangar, we all rolled up our sleeves and chipped in. Some of us are awesome painters, some are licensed electricians, others are clever mechanics, and some just make kick-ass casseroles and cookies to keep the worker bees fueled. We did most of the work ourselves, and we’re incredibly proud of the results.

3. That community brings together folks from all over southern Michigan (and beyond!)

Skydive Tecumseh is a meeting point for adventurous souls from all over the state and region. We find it particularly cool that our dropzone near Detroit acts as a center point for students from UM and MSU. (Everyone plays well together, even on game day!) It helps that we’re only located a short drive away from Ann Arbor, but they all tell us they’d happily drive farther to jump with our local “skyfam.”

4. Life is extra-specially good here for jumpers of all kinds

Skydivers of all stripes — especially licensed jumpers who skydive solo — love the easygoing vibe and top-notch facilities at Skydive Tecumseh. We have a great big grassy landing area, one of the fastest, altitude-hungriest skydiving airplanes in the sky (a King Air, fo sho’!), space to camp, and near-constant get-togethers over food and beers and great stories.

All those elements come together to make Skydive Tecumseh the place to be for skydiving near Detroit, skydiving in Michigan, and — hey — if you’re asking us, skydiving anywhere in the world! Our extended community of skydivers is really the best part of Skydive Tecumseh, as any one of them would be happy to tell you.

Want to be part of it? There’s always room for one more! Whether you’re checking off that bucket list item or you’re keen to put on your very own parachute, we’d love to be the folks that help you find your place in the sky. Don’t be a stranger — contact us today, and let’s get acquainted!

Tandem Skydiver in freefall at Skydive Tecumseh

Wonderful staff -- my tandem instructor, James, was funny, clear, and made sure that I was comfortable during the entire experience (which involved two flights and a bit of "will-we-or-won't-we" due to clouds).
The dive itself is unreal -- exhilarating and meditative, terrifying and relaxing, absolutely breathtaking. I absolutely recommend you try it here first. Skydive Tecumseh has a great reputation, and there's a reason for that. I hope to go again.
