Skydiving: What you weren’t expecting

Tuesday, March 20, 2018

You think you know what skydiving is all about: the loud rush of wind around you, a flurry of adrenaline, and the world streaming past you. But, that just barely breaks the surface. Once you leave the door of the airplane, or actually, for that matter, even before, when you first arrive and check in to our facility at skydive Tecumseh, you will likely be surprised by what you find. Quickly, you discover there is much more submerged beneath the surface and a whole lot more to skydiving than meets the eye.

  • How peaceful it is

From everything you have likely seen of skydiving, whether it is commercials on TV or scenes on the big silver screen, you have been given a slightly skewed representation of what occurs we you jump and how it feels on a skydive. We don’t deny that there is a bit of a rush, but what you are probably not anticipating is just how peaceful and still it will be under canopy. When you are beneath the canopy’s fabric and floating nearly weightless and suspended, there is such an incredible and pressing absence of sound. It’s this stillness that will resonate with you long after you land and even after all the adrenaline fades.

  • The community you will find

Apart from the skydive, there is an entirely new world you have access too. Dropzones are communities. In our community at Skydive Tecumseh, we are united by the transformative experience of skydiving. You’ll find friendly faces and a feeling of familiarity dropzone wide. We can’t wait to welcome you to the family.

  • It doesn’t feel like falling at all

Initially, your body will feel your speed increasing. But this feeling of acceleration is not at all like the feeling you have when you are on a roller coaster. Skydiving produces an entirely different sort of sensation. Your stomach won’t sink or drop and pretty quickly, you will reach terminal velocity. At this point, your body will accelerate no further. When this happens, you feel  more like you are floating than falling.

  • The view around you

If you think skydiving is all about the ‘diving part’, you are in for a surprise! There is plenty of ‘sky’ involved too! A great deal of enjoyment on a skydive comes from taking in the view around you. Remember that peaceful silence under canopy we mentioned earlier? Well, it will give you the perfect opportunity to soak in the sights.

  • A near euphoric feeling.

Joy, jubilation, bliss, delight. What do all these words have in common? They are all attempts to describe just the feeling you have on landing. After your body is flooded with adrenaline and your body’s feel good hormone ‘endorphin’ is released, you’re going to be ruddy cheeked with a feeling of happiness you have probably never experienced. We bet you’ll find that there aren’t quite the right words out there to describe it. So, we figured we’d help you out with a few!

Don’t take our word for it though, come experience a skydive and let us know what you weren’t expecting!

We had to reschedule our jump three times due to weather, but it was definitely worth the wait and I'm definitely going again! The entire crew was amazing!
